Qualification: 1. A first-Class MSc with majors in Remote Sensing / Geoinformatics / Environmental or any Life Sciences. 2. Candidate should have at least five years of working experience in using Remote Sensing & GIS tools. 3. Should have CMAS or PADI advanced open water certification – or CMAS* or PADI open water certification with at least 80 dives logged in, and possessing extensive experience in marine fieldwork. 4. Ability to communicate fluently and clearly in English. 5. Should have a proven research record with publications to showcase. 6. Should be physically fit and not averse to fieldwork.
Pay Scale: Rs.44,900/- plus HRA as admissible to Central Government employees based on the VIIth CPC recommendations.
Desirable Qualifications: 1. Ph.D. degree in Remote Sensing / Geoinformatics or Natural resources mapping. 2. Statistical expertise – used software such as Statistica, SPSS, R, etc., 3. Experience of leading and working with varied groups of people and cultures, especially with research scholars from different scientific fields, volunteers and interns. 4. Experience in setting up and running a field station.
Job Responsibilities: Job Description To serve in the Research project 'Conservation Management of Coral Reefs in Lakshadweep – Longterm Monitoring Programme' which is aimed at achieving the goal of effective conservation management and protection of critical coral habitats in Lakshadweep. The Research Assistant will coordinate the works of the Research Scholars and Monitoring Staff to meet the objectives laid out under the overall goal of the project related to spatial assessment and planning. He/she will
support the Principal Investigator (PI) in achieving the research targets defined in the project. He/she will also support the PI to the development and maintenance of the infrastructure and logistics necessary for the implementation and functioning of the designated activities of the project. Major Duties The Research Assistant will take up the following duties, however, which shall not be limited to, owing to the responsibility of the overall management of the Project. 1. Assisting the PI and the Project Scientist and Research Associate in setting up the project machinery, which involves, infrastructure development, ensuring Research Scholars take up activities for their Ph.D. aiming at specific outcomes under the overall goal of the project, training the monitoring staff and setting up a protocol for regular monitoring activities. 2. Preparing protocols for mapping reef areas, by including reef health / biophysical variables, and assisting PI in Geospatial analyses. 3. Coordinating the data collection by the Research Scholars and Monitoring Staff, storing and analyses, while making sure the data is collected in a timely manner and as per set protocols. 4. Assisting the PI and the Research Associate in preparation of reports and timely submission of the same to the funding agency. 5. Preparing, in consultation with PI, Project Scientist, Research Associate and scholars, material for publication in national and international journals and for presentation at international conferences. 6. Designing, developing and refining field research methodologies, in consultation with PI and Scholars in order to obtain reliable data. 7. Planning a year in advance to meet deadlines for journal publications and to prepare presentations and papers for conferences. 8. Communicating to Lakshadweep Administration for obtaining necessary permits clearances etc. 9. Partnering with Range Forest Officers in organizing outreach and awareness campaigns by involving project staff
